Toothy Winter on the Key West Flats
Friday, December 27, 2013
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Tis the Season for Toothy Critters as evidenced by this 24 pound Barracuda (verified by Boga Grip) caught by Susan Yoder of Pennsylvania on Dec. 23.
We have found alot of these larger Barracuda on the flats as of late.
Winter weather here in the Florida Keys has engineered a cold front on Christmas Eve and the winds were really howling!
So much so, that we had 25 knot breezes out of the Northeast for on Dec. 24 afternoon.
The good news is that the winds have subsided already and Dec. 26-Jan. 1 looks like very
mild weather and very good fishing conditions here in the Keys.
Even when the wind blows 20-25 we can get out for some good fishing. For some anglers, this kind of wind is a no-go situation.
However, Miguel from Spain was only here for a few days and wanted to catch a Tarpon very badly! So, we found some Tarpon laid up in a local canal that was protected from the winds.
These Tarpon are available year ’round here in the Keys, so whenever you come down don’t hesitate to ask, “Hey can I jump a Tarpon today?”
