Another busy, busy week here in the Keys!
Celebrated the new partnership between TRAVELHOST, CONCH TV and KONK 1500 AM with
Gail and Craig Hollenback of the CONCH Republic Media Group. After bantering over a bottle
of bubbly for almost an hour, we finally sat back for a wonderful dinner at Pisces Restaurant in Key West.
Very excited about all the new ideas we will soon be sharing with you!
Spike readies for his weekend away
On Friday we headed north to the Upper Keys. All the pet-friendly villas were reserved at the Chesapeake Beach
Resort in Islamorada so we booked Spike, our Publicity Hound, into the Keys Animal Hospital in Marathon
with a bagful of toys, balls and busy bones. Dr. Mike Dunn and his staff are a loving bunch and they welcomed
Spike with open arms.

We arrived at the Chesapeake Resort with just enough time to drop off our bags in a gorgeous King room
overlooking the ocean before making tracks to the 4th Annual Dancing With Our Island Stars competition.
“Mangrove Mike Forester” and his partner Nancy Dunn laid down the disco gauntlet with a cheeky 70’s
rendition of Aretha Franklin’s hit song, R-E-S-P-E-C-T. The dancing duo didn’t win but they got high fives for
creativity. Ran into Rhonda Brewer of Moorings Realty in Islamorada with handsome hubby Craig at intermission.
Shared a few laughs before hitting the road again….

After the show we stopped into the Green Turtle in Islamorada where renowned Flamenco guitarist, Dave Feder,
had the joint jumpin. GM Tony Corallo welcomed us with a big hug and set us up with two primo seats at the bar.
We ordered the whole fried snapper with Thai chili sauce – outrageously good!

Next up Ziggie & Mad Dog’s. Martini King, Kevin Potter, was holding court at the bar and Jim Mandich,
the “Mad Dog” himself was entertaining friends with sons Nick and Mark. Jim is a big fan of TRAVELHOST and
has been a good friend and mentor to us. Thanks, Jim, for all your support and good advice!

State Attorney Dennis Ward and girlfriend,Mirna
On Saturday night we drove up to the Marriott Key Largo Bay Resort to attend the Black & White Ball,
an annual fundraising event for the Florida Keys Children’s Shelter. Event coordinator, Janey Miller greeted
us at the door and we sat with State Attorney, Dennis Ward and his lovely girlfriend, Mirna Hornechea.
It turned out to be a magical night filled with champagne, music, and goodwill for a very worthy cause.

On the way back to the Chesapeake Resort, we stopped in at Cafe Largo for a quick nightcap with bartender
Ruthie who mixed up one of her famous Key Lime Martini’s rimmed with graham crackers. All in all, it was a
great night and another fabulous weekend in the Keys.
