Welcome to Deer Run Bed and Breakfast in Big Pine Key, Florida Keys. Nourish your body, mind and spirit at Deer Run. We are Jen and Harry, your Innkeepers. Our Caribbean-style eco-friendly home is a State of Florida Certified green lodge. Nestled in lush native trees on the island of Big Pine, down a private, dead-end street. We’re 2 miles off the highway, directly on the Atlantic Ocean…You won’t find us unless you’re looking. Big Pine Key is home to the tiny Key deer, small deer on the endangered species list. Deer Run also boasts something else very rare through the Keys…an actual sandy beach. You may choose to relax in our lounge chairs, bask in the sun, sit beneath the palm trees, swing in our hammock, or relax in our pool or spa. At Deer Run we’re not about “doing”, rather we’re about “un-doing”. Deer Run beach When you’re finally ready for some sights, you can charter a dive or snorkel trip to Looe Key, use our kayaks or bicycles to explore the area, or charter an eco kayak nature tour. Bahia Honda State Park is only minutes away, and is one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. As if that’s not enough, Key West is 30 miles away for active nightlife, museums, live theatre, and more. There is something for everyone here in paradise at Deer Run. Every morning we serve our guests an innovative full total vegetarian breakfast (everything is suitable for vegans) on our screened veranda overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Jen’s arrival at Deer Run inspired her to incorporate her vegan lifestyle into the inn. Jen studied privately with a professional chef, with a goal to introduce her vegetarian and non-vegetarian guests alike to a delicious cuisine to be savored. Our focus is on fresh and healthy. Breakfasts consist of a daily varying hot entrée, along with fresh home-baked bread or muffins, fresh fruit, coffee, tea and juice or smoothies. A typical breakfast could include Jen’s pancakes with fruit compote, parfaits (with key lime mousse and homemade granola), fresh fruit, cranberry burst orange muffins, and juice. We use as much organic food as possible, locally source ingredients, cook only in stainless steel cookware, use only non-irradiated organic spices, and exclusively offer fair trade & organic coffee, tea, cocoa powder, chocolate and vanilla extract. Deer Run strives to be as eco-friendly as possible, and was Certified by the State of Florida in October of 2007 as an official “green” lodge.
